PORTALES — Max Carries, a 6-foot-7 junior-to-be forward from Moreno Valley, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball next season at Eastern New Mexico University.

Carrier is transferring from Irvine Valley College in California. Last season, he helped the Lasers to a 26-5 record and a berth in the quarterfinals of the California junior college championship, averaging 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, 1 1/2 blocks and one steal per game en route to team MVP honors.

The year before, he played at College of Southern Idaho, shooting 63 percent from the floor and helping the Golden Eagles to a 22-9 record.

Two Albuquerque players, Michael Maya of Valley and Kyle Lantz of Manzao, had signed earlier this spring with second-year ENMU coach Andrew Helton.
