Grad party alternative

University Baptist Church is hosting a “No Regrets” Graduation All-Night Celebration Friday, the night of the Portales High School graduation.

The event is free of alcohol and drugs.

It’s open to all juniors and seniors and their guests, who must be freshmen or older.

It starts at 10 p.m. at the church and continues until 6 a.m. the next morning with activities all night.

Today in history

On this day in 1935, at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, Babe Ruth hit his 714th home run, a record for career home runs that would stand for almost 40 years.

It was one of Ruth’s last games, and the last home run of his career.

Here’s the rest of the story:

Today — Sweet… isolated showers and thunderstorms in the morning…then mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s.

Tonight — Sleeping weather… scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. South winds 10 to 15 mph in the evening.
