Police blotter — May 30

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

About noon May 13 an officer responded to the 500 block of Thornton Street for a report of battery.

A man told dispatch he had followed a man who had hit him.

Officers met with the 20-year-old, who said he was driving south on Thornton Street and passed a vehicle that was moving slow.

He said when he pulled up to the intersection of Seventh Street, a male exited the vehicle and walked around to his vehicle door, asked him what his problem was and slapped him.

He said he watched where the vehicle went and called police.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect or his vehicle.


Around 5 p.m. May 13 an officer responded to the area of Prince and First streets for a crash involving multiple vehicles.

Officers discovered four vehicles stopped at the light had been sideswiped by another car.

A 26-year-old man said he was driving north on Prince Street approaching vehicles that were stopped and discovered his brakes weren’t working.

He said he tried to move between the rows of vehicles and struck four of them.

The man was issued a citation for his vehicle being in unsafe condition and not having a driver’s license.


Around 11 p.m. May 14 an officer responded to a residence in the 900 block of Mora Drive for a report of criminal damage.

A resident said she heard some loud noises outside and when she looked, she saw three male juveniles hitting mailboxes with golf clubs.

She said when she went outside, the three ran off.

The officer documented damage to three mailboxes.


About 2 a.m. May 15 an officer responded to an unidentified apartment for a report of a child wandering around outside in only a diaper.

The officer met with a woman who said she was in her apartment and heard a small child. When she looked out she said she saw a young boy walking around in the rain in only a diaper.

She said she looked around and found the apartment the boy was from. She said she went through the open door and when she went inside, she said the floor was covered in vomit and there were dirty diapers and alcohol everywhere.

The boy’s mother and a male were passed out in a bedroom and when she woke the mother, she said she didn’t seem to know what she was talking about.

She said she put the boy in his bed and covered him and called police.

Officers entered the apartment and saw it as the woman described, finding the mother and a man in the bedroom.

Noting the man was passed out on the floor with his face lying in an open, dirty diaper, officers woke him and he began cursing and telling them to get out.

The officer noted the woman did not appear to know what was going on or what had transpired that evening.

The child was removed from the home and placed with social workers, the man was arrested for concealing his identity because he refused to tell officers who he was and the boy’s mother was arrested for child neglect.
