The Clovis Wildcats defended the Artesia Bulldogs, and defended their turf in the process.
Clovis held visiting Artesia to a by-far season low on offense in a 13-7 victory Friday at Leon Williams Stadium.
The Bulldogs (4-3) posted just 218 yards of offense, and were held 40 points below their average point total this season. Artesia had not scored less than 38 points in a game.
The Wildcats got second quarter touchdowns from Raymond Beachum and Jordan Hill, on carries of 3 and 1 yards, respectively.
The Class 4A Bulldogs, however, hung in as Josh Houghtaling hit Dacotah Watts for a 5-yard pass to put the Bulldogs on the board late in the third quarter.
Artesia had a pair of chances to steal the win on fourth-quarter drives, but junior safety Tre Orozco made an interception on a screen pass and junior linebacker Boone Wheeler stuffed a fourth-down pass attempt on the Bulldogs’ next drive.
