ENMU men seventh, women ninth at WT rodeo

CANYON, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University’s men took four of the top five spots in team roping and finished seventh in team standings over the weekend in the West Texas A&M rodeo.

Junior Clinton Hiett of El Paso and sophomore Christian Pettigrew of Fort Sumner won the event, followed by sophomore Billy Good and freshman Pecos Thomas in second, junior Brock Dearing and West Texas College’s Cody Burney in third and sophomores Michael Trujillo of Portales and Chance Kiehne of Springerville, Texas in fifth.

ENMU’s women finished ninth, getting a third-place showing from sophomore Odessa Yazzie in breakaway roping and a sixth-place finish from freshman Gina Flewelling in goat tying.

ENMU squads close the fall portion of their schedule this weekend in a rodeo hosted by Texas Tech at Lubbock.
