Adolfo Lucero was elected De Baca County Commissioner for District 2 Tuesday, finishing with 705 votes to James G. Bell’s 182 votes.

Lucero said his first step will be to thoroughly research De Baca County’s water shortage and landfill issues from the perspective of all the county’s citizens before pursuing definite action.

“I have my own opinion on the water issues as a rancher and farmer,” said Lucero. “But I haven’t seen the other side of that and I don’t want to be closed minded to the issue, so I need to research more.”

Lucero said he was grateful for the support of the county’s citizens and feels he is ready for the challenge of meeting the county’s needs.

In the election for Magistrate Judge, Buddy J. Hall won, finishing with 605 votes to Rosalie Gonzales Joiner’s 310 votes.

John P. Wootton was elected Probate Judge with 530 votes to Leona A. Wood’s 355 votes.

Both Hall and Wootton were unavailable for comment.
