Wednesday morning briefing: Wildcats band, test scores and a landslide

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Wednesday briefing.

CHS Band show

The CHS marching band and colorguard is presenting their Grand Champion performance 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the football stadium.

It’s free.

The band is leaving town soon after the performance to compete in St. George, Utah.

Ride the Bookmobile

The state Rural Bookmobile program brings books and informational materials to communities in Roosevelt, Curry and Quay counties.

Each van carries up to 4,000 volumes.

Today in history

On this day in 1964, in one of the most crushing victories in the history of U.S. presidential elections, incumbent Lyndon Baines Johnson defeats Republican challenger Barry Goldwater, Sr.

With over 60 percent of the popular vote, Johnson turned back the conservative senator from Arizona to secure his first full term in office after succeeding to the presidency after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November 1963.
