Dannah Brown: Altrusa International of Portales
Altrusa International of Portales’ 13th annual Holiday Happening will be Dec. 4 in the Eastern New Mexico University Campus Union Ballroom.
This year Linda Davis and Dannah Brown are co-chairing the event. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. with the catered meal and program beginning at 11:45 a.m.
Everyone attending will have the opportunity to preview 67 tables decorated for the holidays. Most of the tables have a Christmas theme.
In previous years, tables have been decorated with Santa Claus, snowmen, nutcrackers, and nativity scenes just to name a few. According to Brown, there are many creative men and women in the community that decorate the tables.
During the event there will be a silent auction, door prizes, and a holiday fashion show featuring apparel from Dilliard’s. Also, Dilliard’s decorates a table and all the items on the table will be a part of the silent auction.
Table sponsorship is the main source of funds raised for the event. There are still a few tables available for purchase.
Tables sitting eight can be purchased for $150 or single tickets to the event can be purchased for $25. Tables or tickets can be purchased by contacting Brown at 356-3705 or 607-6201.
According to Brown, money raised from the event is used for community service projects.
The club has purchase musical instruments for Portales Schools, donated to the Portales High School choir trip, purchased items for Roosevelt General Hospital, made donations to the Make-A-Wish foundation, donated to the City of Portales Christmas lights fund, and purchased playground equipment for one of the Portales parks.
Altrusa is very appreciative of the support they receive from local businesses and individuals in making this a successful project year after year.
