The Eastern Plains Council of Governments board unanimously appointed Sandy Chancey as interim director during a Wednesday meeting,
Chancey, currently serving as executive assistant, will assume the role Dec. 1.
She will replace Interim Director Richard Arguello, who recommended her for the position.
Arguello, a Union County commissioner, will complete his commission term at the end of December and as such, his board service with EPCOG.
EPCOG board members are required to hold a position on either a municipal or county commission.
“I think Sandy will do us a fantastic job,” said Chairman Gary Watkins, a Portales City Council member.
Arguello also told board members a teen parent program housed with EPCOG has lost federal funding and will permanently close Nov. 30.
