A missing Portales woman remained hospitalized Tuesday after being found under a mobile home within a block of her North Avenue A home about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Maria Galvan, 63, disappeared from her residence on foot Saturday afternoon.
According to a news release from the Portales Police Department, Galvan’s condition was unavailable Tuesday. However, officers and firefighters at the scene described her as alert and uninjured.
Portales Police Deputy Chief Lonnie Berry said Galvan was taken to Roosevelt General Hospital Monday night. Berry said there were concerns because of existing health conditions, the cold weather and length of time she’d been missing.
Galvan has Alzheimer’s and diabetes, according to a news release from New Mexico State Police.
Berry said the resident of the mobile home in the 1000 block of North Avenue A heard noises Monday night and called police. Officers checked under the mobile home and found Galvan, who appeared to have crawled there, he said.
Police requested help from Portales firefighters in getting Galvan out from under the mobile home.
Inge said he hadn’t learned why Galvan was under the house.
Firefighter Mike Inge said when firefighters arrived, Galvan’s family had given her blankets and water under the house, and someone had started to remove the floor over her location. The firefighters cut a larger hole in the mobile home floor, helped Galvan out and took her to the hospital to have her health checked.
