ENMU board appointments announced

Freedom New Mexico

Gov. Susana Martinez has announced two new appointments to the Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents.

Brett Leach of Roswell will replace Pauline Ponce, also from Roswell. The new student regent is Santana Chavez of Dora, replacing Robert Wachter from Portales.

“Although we at the university hate to lose Pauline Ponce and Rob Wachter as regents, Brett Leach and Santana Chavez are excellent selections to replace them,” said ENMU President Steven Gamble. “Mr. Leach has deep roots at ENMU, and Ms. Chavez will be an able spokesperson and representative for our student body.”

Leach is a financial consultant with Southwest Securities Group Inc. in Roswell. He graduated from Portales High School, and received a 1969 bachelor of science and a 1971 master of arts in psychology from ENMU.

Leach is a former instructor at ENMU-Roswell and former director of Law Enforcement Education at ENMU-Clovis, before it became Clovis Community College.

Chavez is an ENMU student majoring in communicative disorders.

She is president of the ENMU National Speech-Language and Hearing Association and is executive assistant for ENMU Student Government. Santana also volunteers at the ENMU Speech and Hearing Rehabilitation Outreach Center.
