Hooked on fishing

Oasis State Park is holding its Second Annual Spring Trout Derby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

March 26. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues throughout the event.

Anyone can enter, but ages 12 and older need a valid New Mexico fishing license.

The $5 park entrance fee applies, and the derby entry fee is $5 per person.

Participants can win money if they catch a tagged fish, and the event includes door prizes.

Clovis’ Wastewater Division says it’s closing 12th Street Monday between Mitchell and Connelly.

On this day in 1942, the War Relocation Authority is created to “Take all people of Japanese descent into custody, surround them with troops, prevent them from buying land, and return them to their former homes at the close of the war.”

Families were sardined into 20- by 25-foot rooms and forced to use communal bathrooms.
