Snip, snip

Three ribbon-cuttings to celebrate businesses in Clovis are scheduled this week:

• 11 a.m. Friday to debut Duex Cherie Candy Bouquets, 105 E. Grand Ave.

• 11:30 a.m. Friday at the newly re-opened Papa Murphy’s Pizza, 3900 N. Prince St.

• 2 p.m. Saturday at the newly replaced Allsup’s Store #320 at 21st & Prince.

All are open the public.

Today in history

On this day in 1999, the writing and directing sibling team of Andy and Larry Wachowski release their second film, the mind-blowing science-fiction blockbuster “The Matrix.”

Born and raised in Chicago, the Wachowski brothers both dropped out of college and started a house-painting and construction business before they got into the film industry.
