New Mexico State Police said Friday that a man accused of killing two men in a Tucumcari hotel is also a suspect in two Ohio slayings.
Muziwokuthula Madonda, 33 of Chicago, is awaiting extradition from Conroe, Texas. He is charged with two open counts of murder and tampering with evidence connected to the March 24 shooting deaths of Gabriel Baca, 37, and Bobby Gonzales, 57, at the Tucumcari Inn.
Madonda has been identified as the suspect in two additional homicides that occurred in Ohio in February, said state police Lt. Eric Garcia.
Garcia said the victims in the two prior homicides have been identified as Jackie Hider of Akron, Ohio, and Zenzele D. Mdadane, a native of South Africa and acquaintance of Madonda.
The two homicides occurred in different towns in Ohio. Hider was slain Feb. 17 at her residence on Hampton Ridge Drive in Akron.
Hider was shot twice, once in the abdomen and once in the chest, said Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards.
Edwards said a warrant was issued for Madonda’s arrest on the charges of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery.
An information request has been sent to the Dayton, Ohio Police Department for a warrant affidavit regarding Mdadane’s homicide. Garcia said Mdadane was killed in Dayton but did not have additional details.
Madonda was arrested March 28 in Conroe and has waived extradition back to New Mexico, police said.
“The plan was to extradite Madonda to Tucumcari to stand trial,” Garcia said. “Now that another state has identified him as a suspect in two additional (deaths), the district attorneys will have to work out who will extradite him first.”
