Letters to the editor: Speed traps waste of police time

Speed traps waste of police time

We go through Elida a number of times a year on our way to our cabin in Ruidoso.

Quite a number of times, we see an Elida police officer at the northeast Village limits facing southwest back toward the town awaiting speeders as they leave town toward the northeast.

Now, I see no problem giving tickets to speeders in the 35 mph area in the downtown.

But, there is not much to damage as you are leaving Elida to the northeast except maybe a jackrabbit or a rattlesnake.

We all agree that the law needs to be obeyed and enforced. But, is this the way that we wish to welcome travelers and tourists to Elida and New Mexico?
