Reader-submitted content: ENMU kids college planned

May 4, 2011

Rebbecca Gossett

It’s about that time again for another summer of fun at Eastern New Mexico University’s Kids’ College.

We are planning a variety of activities for children ages 6-12, who will be divided into three age groups. Parents of 5-year-olds can consider the summer program at the ENMU Child Development Center at 562-2805.

Kids’ College runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 6 to July 29 with a break July 4.

This summer, daily fun for students includes computer time, art, reading, music, living history, science, physical education, swimming and more.

Children need to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Also, each day, children are required to bring a backpack filled with a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and refillable water bottle, all labeled with the children’s names.

Parents and children should plan for the concluding variety show and pizza party on the last day.

Headquarters are located in the Family and Consumer Sciences Building.

The registration fee is $70 per week per child. This includes the cost of all regular activities and classroom supplies, plus 45 hours of supervision per week and afternoon snacks.

After the first child, additional siblings will receive a discounted price of $55 per week.

Field trips will again highlight the summer for additional fees equal to admission charges at those locations selected.

Enrollment is limited and pre-payment confirms the spot, so register as soon as possible to secure your child’s summer fun.

Regular registration is open in the Office of Distance Education and Outreach in Room 102 of the Education Building. Children must be registered no later than the Friday before each scheduled week of classes, as space allows.

Each age group must have a minimum of six students and a maximum of 30.

No payments can be accepted curbside by teachers, counselors or the coordinator.

If payment is delinquent, parents must report to the Education Building Room 102 with payment and child on Monday morning.
