Farwell mayor spot up for grabs

A mayor’s race in Farwell is among those to be decided Saturday in nearby Texas communities.

Saturday is recognized as a day for city elections, along with other elections handled by the city, such as hospital and school boards. Bovina, Farwell, Friona, and Muleshoe all have at least one position up for grabs.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Contact City Hall for polling locations.

• Bovina: Three positions, all with two-year terms, are available on the city council with six running. Candidates are Josue Gonzales, Mike Knoll, Galen Rhodes, Celia Tienda, Radford Venable and Richard Villareal.

• Farwell: Incumbent Jimmy Mace is running against challengers Ruben Marquis and Janice Clements. The mayor holds office for a two-year term.

• Friona: The Friona Independent School district has six candidates running for two at-large school board positions. Tracy Bunker is the lone incumbent, and is on the ballot along with Fredie Merino, Greg O’Brien, Ben Osburn, Antonio Rocha and Wade Schuler.

City hall: 806-250-2761.

• Muleshoe: The Muleshoe Area Hospital District has two candidates in each of their board of directors races. Incumbent Scott Brown is running against Daniel Patterson in Place 2, and Wayne Pierson is the incumbent in a race against Chad Nickels. The terms are two-year terms.

Both city council incumbents, Gary Parker and Eric McElroy, were unopposed on the ballot and will receive two-year terms.
