ABILENE, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University junior Bill Squire qualified for the NCAA Division II track championship in the hammer throw in Thursday’s Last Chance Twilight track meet hosted by Abilene Christian, winning the event with a toss of 187 feet 8 3/4 inches.
The throw surpasses the provisional qualifying mark of 182-1. He also placed fourth in shot put and fifth in discus in the meet, helping the Greyhounds to a fourth-place showing out of 13 teams with 47 points.
Junior Mohammed Noor, the Lone Star Conference champion in the men’s 5,000, won the event in this meet uncontested with a time of 15 minutes, 31.86 seconds. Sophomore Pedro Martinez was second in the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:46.81.
ENMU’s women scored nine points to finish in a tie for ninth. The Zias got a fourth-place finish in discus and a fifth in hammer from junior Kassie Daugherty.
