Reader-submitted: Steve Sims joins First Baptist Church ministry staff

Steve Sims

First Baptist Church of Clovis recently welcomed Steve Sims to its ministry staff.

Steve and his wife Carrie moved to Clovis with their two children to become a part of the ministry of First Baptist on Aug. 21.

Steve and Carrie have lived in Amarillo the past several years, where Steve served as minister of music at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Having earned a bachelor of music from Oklahoma Baptist University and a master of church music from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., Steve brings a solid theological education and clear gifting to the ministry at First Baptist.

First Baptist developed the position of pastor of worship and families to meet the needs not only of congregational worship, but also to focus on connecting church and home by developing strong family integrated ministries that will help families grow in the faith together.

A large part of this vision will be worked out in focusing on the cultivation of family worship taking place in the home.

Another aspect of seeing church and home connected will be Steve overseeing the children’s ministry of First Baptist.

Steve’s heart for God-exalting, Christ-centered, spirit-empowered worship is perhaps seen no more clearly than in his own philosophy of worship. While sharing with the congregation on a Sunday evening regarding his understanding of worship, Steve expressed it well in this statement:

“I want to be sure that even if Pastor Eric (Fields) drops dead right before he steps into the pulpit, that the Gospel has been clearly proclaimed in what we have already sung.”

As one who is intimately tied to the implications of that statement, I could not agree more!
