Curry County Commissioners have scheduled a series of public hearings that start Tuesday in Clovis, trying to get ideas from the public on how to spend as much as $500,000 in grant money.
The first hearing is 5 p.m. at the Clovis-Carver Library North Annex. Other hearings are set for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Grady Senior Center and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Texico Fire Station.
At issue is a Community Development Block Grant, federal cash meant to help the county provide such things as essential community facilities, decent housing, promoting economic development and maintaining a suitable living environment, according to Rachel Visser, grant writer and administrator for the county.
Curry County is eligible for a maximum $500,000.
Visser said previous grants helped fund the new Melrose Health Care Clinic and construction at the Melrose water treatment plant.
