The family of a 4-year-old struck and killed by a car last year in Clovis is planning a candlelight vigil 8 p.m. Monday near the accident site.

Xzavier Salcido died Sept. 19, 2010, after he was struck on Cameo between Ninth and 10th streets. Police said he said he followed other children onto Cameo and the driver was unable to avoid hitting the child.

Police said the accident was unavoidable and the driver, Nadine Armijo, 46, of Clovis, wasn’t charged.

Xzavier was the son of Elicia and Tim Salcido.

Xzavier’s grandmother, Anna Martino of Clovis, said the city has agreed to block Cameo Street to allow the vigil in remembrance of Xzavier. She said the family hopes the vigil will remind motorists there are children in the neighborhood and to drive slower.

The vigil is open to the public.
