CANYON, Texas — For the first time in the program’s history, Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team has a winning streak against Lone Star Conference rival West Texas A&M.

Junior defender Michael Stewart headed the ball into the net on a corner kick by freshman Anthony Bardon early in overtime on Friday, giving the Greyhounds a 1-0 win their first season series sweep of the Buffaloes.

ENMU (4-0-1, 2-0-0 LSC), winning for the first time in eight tries at Canyon, was coming off a 2-1 win over the still-winless Buffs (0-3, 0-2) on Sunday in Portales.

Bardon’s score was the only shot on goal for ENMU in the game,. WT managed just one shot on goal in its own right, coming early in the first half.

The Hounds step outside conference play on Monday to host Wayland Baptist in a 4 p.m. clash at the ENMU pitch.

ENMU women edge Pioneers: At Denton, Texas, freshman forward Paola Loya scored an unassisted goal with just under 10 minutes left in regulation, then lightning shortly thereafter led to the suspension of play and eventually the Zias were awarded a 1-0 Lone Star Conference win over Texas Woman’s.

The goal, Loya’s second of the season, was the first for the Zias (3-2-0, 2-0-0 LSC) against the Pioneers since a 2-1 win over TWU in Portales on Oct. 20, 2006. The Pioneers (0-3-2, 0-2-0) had shut out ENMU each of the last four seasons, outscoring the Zias by a combined 8-0.

ENMU will stay in east Texas to face Texas A&M-Commerce in an 11 a.m. conference matchup on Sunday
