Greyhounds win Highlands Cross Country Jam; Zias place second

LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Junior Isiah Samoei and senior Mohammed Noor led a strong showing for Eastern New Mexico University’s men as the Greyhounds won the New Mexico Highlands Cross Country Jam on Saturday.

Samoei finished second in 25 minutes, 12.99 seconds and Noor third in 25:14.10 as the Hounds finished with 23 points to 42 for Highlands, 68 for South Plains College and 113 for Oklahoma Panhandle State.

ENMU’s women, meantime, placed second out of five teams with 42 points to 31 for South Plains. Following were Highlands (68), Western New Mexico (86) and Panhandle (139).

Jacob Lozano was sixth (25:27.70) and Tyler Saiz seventh for the ENMU men. The race winner was South Plains’ Kemoy Campbell in 24:16.95.

Meantime, the Zias were led by senior Nicky Reid, third in 19:24.54 over five kilometers, and sophomore Adrienne Montoya, fourth in 19:49.10. South Plains’ Darroneisha Lott claimed individual honors in 18:42.22.

The Hounds and Zias return to action on Saturday at Stillwater, Okla., in the Oklahoma State Jamboree.
