No one was injured Thursday afternoon in a fire that gutted a mobile home off North Prince Street at Connie Lane.

Battalion Chief Montie Powell said firefighters arrived about 3:55 p.m. after a maintenance worker at the small mobile home community spotted the fire and told a neighbor to call for help.

Powell said the cause of the fire was under investigation and results are expected sometime Thursday. He said it appeared the fire started outside and underneath the home.

Powell said the fire had spread inside the home by the time crews arrived to fight the blaze.

Firefighters were on scene about an hour and a half.

Powell said there was major damage to the home and it wouldn’t be livable without major repairs.

Richard Hausmann, who rents the home, said he was away shopping for a get well card and gift for his girlfriend. He found out about the fire and damage after arriving home from the trip.

Hausmann said he didn’t know the cause of the fire, adding he felt “blessed” that he wasn’t inside when the blaze broke out.

Hausmann said he was working with his church to locate a temporary place to live.
