Last time out: The Zias lost at Incarnate Word 61-41 on Saturday, while the Pioneers won at home the same day over Abilene Christian 74-68.
Last year: The teams, then in opposite divisions of the LSC, met in a crossover game at Denton on Dec. 11. The Zias stunned TWU 59-44, holding the Pioneers to their lowest point total of the season.
Of note: ENMU senior F Precious Herrin earned LSC offensive player of the week honors, primarily for her 40-point, 11-rebound outing in a 79-71 win at Texas A&M-Kingsville. It was Herrin’s sixth double-double in her two seasons at ENMU. … Despite their loss to ENMU last season, the Pioneers put together the best year in the program’s history. They set seven school records, among them most wins (22-11), most LSC wins (10-4 in the North) and most points (2,188). They won the LSC tournament for the first time and earned the program’s first berth in the NCAA Division II tournament. … This year, TWU is shooting 48 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the line, and outrebounding opponents on average 41-37. The Pioneers are 4-0 at home. … Jessica Hanna, a 5-foot-9 senior G, leads TWU at 20.3 ppg and 10 rpg, and is shooting 87 percent (27-of-31) at the FT line. Hanna blocked a shot in the final seconds to preserve a 74-73 win over Central Oklahoma in last year’s LSC tourney final. … Also scoring in double figures are 6-1 freshman C Tiara Davis (13.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg in four games, all off the bench), and 5-9 junior G Brittany Nuzum (12.3).
