Negotiations with two finalists for the Curry County jail administrator’s position were authorized Tuesday by commissioners.

County Manager Lance Pyle said he and County Attorney Stephen Doerr will begin negotiating with Gerry Billy as the first choice and Michael Williams as the second choice.

Billy is a retired six-term (24 years) sheriff of Licking County, Ohio. Williams of Selah, Wash., is a retired 16-year division chief at the Yakima County, Wash., Department of Corrections.

The hire, to be announced by Pyle, will replace former Administrator Keith Norwood, who resigned Sept. 13. Interim Administrator Tori Sandoval has been in charge of the jail since Norwood’s departure. She was also a candidate for Norwood’s job but was passed over.

The pay range to be offered the person eventually selected ranges from $68,259 to $85,324, according to Pyle.
