Friday morning briefing: Christmas dinners, long walks and part of an ear

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Friday briefing.

Christmas dinners

A couple of free Christmas dinners:

The Lighthouse Mission in Clovis is hosting a free Christmas dinner from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday at the facility, 407 Casillas Blvd.

It’s part of the mission’s “no one should be alone” outreach and is open to the public.

And, El Rancho in Portales will open it’s doors from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for the restaurant’s annual free dinner. It’s a holiday gift from the owners.

Quirky quote of the day

“I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.” — Noel Coward

Today in history

On this day in 1888, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, suffering from severe depression, cuts off the lower part of his left ear with a razor while staying in Arles, France.

He later documented the event in a painting titled Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.
