Cannon power outage set for Friday

By 27th SOW Public Affairs

A base-wide power outage is scheduled for from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, at Cannon Air Force Base, to include Chavez West Manor military family housing.

The outage is required to allow contractors to install custom-made parts for the base power substation, which will help prevent future outages.

Base residents are urged to have flashlights and spare batteries on hand, avoid opening refrigerators and freezers and utilize coolers to store perishable items.

The Pecos Trail Dining Facility, Base Exchange, Cannon Commissary and Fitness Center will remain open during the outage. The Whispering Winds Golf Course and clubhouse however, will be closed. Traffic signals will be out, so drive cautiously and obey all posted signs.

Emergency phone lines will operate normally during the outage. If you dial 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency, base and home phones will connect to the fire department and cell phones will connect to Clovis 911 call center.

“Thank you for all your patience and understanding during these periods of growth,” said Lt. Col. Dan Guinan, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron commander. “We will continue every effort to make Cannon a better place to live and work.”
