• Last time out: The Mustangs, ranked 11th in NCAA Division II, erased a double-figure deficit for the third time this season on Wednesday, edging West Texas A&M 66-60 in overtime at Wichita Falls, Texas. The Greyhounds lost to Cameron 72-57 on Wednesday at Lawton, Okla.
• Last season: MSU extended its winning streak over the Hounds to nine, winning 89-69 at Wichita Falls and 81-79 at Greyhound Arena. ENMU’s last win in the series came in 2007 at Wichita Falls.
• Of note: MSU, which trailed WT by 12 points with seven minutes left, matched the best start in school history (2009-10). The Mustangs entered the week as one of four unbeaten NCAA Division II men’s teams. … MSU leads the all-time series 21-14, including 9-8 at Portales. … The Hounds, who face WT twice next week, have lost four in a row. … Anthony Harris, a 6-foot-7 senior F, leads three Mustangs averaging in double figures for the season at 12.3 ppg. Others are 6-3 junior G JaMichael Rivers (11.9) and 6-1 senior G Michael Loyd (11.8). … Loyd, a transfer from BYU, played in 36 games with two starts for the Cougars in 2007-08. His younger brother, Kevin, is also on the team, while a third brother, Johnathan, is a freshman at Oregon. … Loyd is the team leader in minutes played (24.9 per game), but had to go 42 against WT. … Senior G Reggie Nelson, ENMU’s leading scorer (13.8 ppg), is second in the LSC in FT shooting at 91 percent (60-of-66). He trails only Division II national leader Ashton Brown of Texas A&M-Kingsville (97 percent, 83-of-86).
