Base preps for tax time

By Cannon Tax Office: 27th Special Operations Wing

For many, tax season can be one of the most overwhelming and dreaded times of the year. However, the Cannon Tax Office can help you complete your tax forms for free Tuesday through April 17.

All active duty personnel, retirees, and eligible dependents may have their federal and state income tax returns prepared at no cost. Last year nearly 1,000 federal and more than 1,200 state returns were prepared, saving the Cannon community $234,000 in fees.

Walk-in hours will be held on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. These walk-in visits are appropriated for individuals who are eligible to file a Form 1040EZ (single, married with no children or property). On Feb. 6 the Tax Center will begin assisting individuals filing Forms 1040 or 1040A from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Due to lack of space and volume of people served, please make arrangements for child care while filing your taxes.

To expedite service please bring:

  • Social security cards and birth dates of taxpayers and dependents
  • Last year’s tax return (if applicable)
  • Routing and account information for direct deposit of refund
  • W-2s, 1099s, and 1098’s
  • Real estate taxes paid and/or investment income paperwork
  • Powers of attorney (if applicable)
  • Any other tax paperwork you may have received

Please call 784-7304 if you have any questions or to schedule an appointment.
