Name the giraffe

The deadline for submitting a name for Clovis’ new baby giraffe is fast approaching — 5 p.m. Feb. 29.

The winner of the contest gets a one-year free pass to the zoo and their name on a plaque.

Romantic fundraiser

There is a Valentine Dinner Fundraiser 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Massey Center on the Baptist Children’s Home campus, 2200 Ave. I, Portales.

Admission is $25 per couple.

On this day in 1992, former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, accused of raping 18-year-old beauty-pageant contestant Desiree Washington, is found guilty by an Indiana jury.

The following month, Tyson was given a 10-year prison sentence, with four years suspended.
