Thursday morning briefing: Showing off, hot chili and a taste of honey

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Thursday briefing.

Showing off

Catabration — also known as parent night — is 5 p.m. 6 p.m. today at the Clovis High School Freshman Academy.

It’s a parent night to showcase the students work.

Hot chili

The Portales Kiwanis Club’s 49th annual Chili Dinner is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday at Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, 200 South Ave. C.

Takeouts will be available.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12, and may be purchased at the door or in advance from any Kiwanis member.

Information: 359-1252.

Kitchen tip

If your honey has crystallized, place the bottle or container in a pot full of hot water and let it sit for about half an hour or until the honey is melted. Stir the honey well and the crystals will be gone.

It’s a fact

In South Africa, termites are often roasted and eaten by the handful, like pretzels or popcorn.
