The Curry County Cats will face a tough test Saturday night as they try to finish a perfect preseason.
The semi-pro Cats are heading to Midland, Texas, to face the West Texas Drillers in a 7 p.m. (CST) exhibition contest at Grande Communications Stadium.
The Cats won their first two games comfortably, 50-0 over the Amarillo Titans and 19-6 over the West Texas Outlaws.
“I think we’re a lot better,” Lopez said. “Having that one year under their belt, nothing’s new to them.”
But the Drillers, who went 12-1 last season and finished as the runnerup in the Minor Professional Football League, present a big challenge.
“They’ve got some studs, a lot of guys from Texas Tech, TCU, SMU,” Lopez said. “They’re pretty loaded. We kind of want to see how we match up.”
Tickets are $10 for the exhibition.
The Cats return home March 3 to open their eight-game regular season against the New Mexico Titans.
