Group organizes health care forum

The 27th Special Operations Medical Group organized the Cannon Care Group in May to keep the Cannon Air Force Base community aware of medical group issues.

The open forum is for medical group staff and anyone on base. Usually the group goes over health-related topics for the first hour and then the group opens up the floor for questions from the community.

“We definitely encourage more participation,” said Elizabeth Seitz, flight commander of TRICARE Operations and Patient Administration. “We get the same people coming out and they are usually representatives of their squadron on base. Everyone who participates definitely likes having the meetings.”

According to Seitz, Cannon Care Group evolved out of other meetings that the medical group had where they discussed and helped address any concerns and issues related to improving the health care on base and in the local community.

One of the concerns of Cannon Care is getting information out to public on the medical group’s process and procedures.

“We get that out through (Cannon Care Group) and send out literature,” Seitz said. “We also post process related questions on our Facebook page. Facebook helps us get information out to more people.”

In the past the group has discussed change to Patient Care Medical Home air force initiatives on how clinics would be set up.

The next meeting, the group will be talking about changes to their dental plan, specifically about care and coverage.

The medical group only serves people who are covered by TRICARE, which is military health care.

The medical group provides primary care in their clinic as well as an array of other medical services and they also have dental services available for active duty members.
