Members of Portales’ Triple L Band and the Alaska String Band consider their musical stylings to be fit for the family. It shouldn’t be a surprise, as both bands basically are families.

The two bands will join forces for a pair of concerts Friday at the Yam Theater in Portales and Saturday at the Lyceum Theater in Clovis.

Showtime is 7 p.m. for both shows, with tickets $10 each and children 12 and younger free with a paying adult.

“They are friends of ours that we met throughout the bluegrass traveling world,” said Amy Miller, one fifth of the Triple L Band. “They were passing through, so maybe I thought we should have some concerts.”

Both acts are family affairs. The Triple L Band got its start when two of the Miller sons played together at the Floyd Country Jamboree.

The group is made up of brothers Lance, Landon and Levi Miller, along with the parents, Len and Amy Miller.

As for the Alaskan String Band, “My wife Melissa and I met playing music before we were married,” said Paul Zahasky. “Music was always a part of our home and our family life.”

The Alaskan String Band has been touring throughout Texas, New Mexico and Arizona for the last two months and did a concert in Midland, Texas, two weekend ago.

Zahasky said the band is looking forward to the local shows, just as they’re looking forward to bringing the Triple L Band up to Alaska in the summer.

“We have heard really good things about the people and the lifestyle,” He said. “Being from Alaska, we really like the rural living. I think there’s that ‘independent while helping out your neighbor’ spirit.”
