L.J. Jenkins invite returns

CNJ staff

The PBR returns to Clovis today.

The two-day L.J. Jenkins Invitational at the Curry County Events Center will feature 40 bull riders in the Touring Pro event, included defending champion Skeeter Kingsolver of McLouth, Kan., and Jenkins, a Texico native.

Name dropping

Other top-name riders expected to participate include Shane Proctor, Stormy Wing, Valdiron de Oliveira, Ryan McConnell and Austin Myer.

J.B. Mauney was scheduled to participate, but winning last week’s PBR finals changed his plans.

Texico High’s L.J. Jenkins, who now lives in Porum, Okla., rides Colt 45 in last year’s event.

Each of the 40 cowboys will ride each night, with the 10 top advancing to that night’s shot-go.

Something new

Free-style bullfighting will be feature at intermission.

There are four entries, including 14-year-old Ryder Ridge of Eaton, Colo.

Jenkins and other bull riders and bullfighters will be available for photos and free autographs 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Joe’s Boot Shop.
