Sheriff: Murder suspect arrested in Clovis

A Clovis man wanted for murder in Farwell was arrested Saturday night by Curry County sheriff deputies, according to a news release from Sheriff Wesley Waller.

Francisco Javier Moreno Gutierrez, 38, was arrested about 7 p.m. at his home in Clovis, in the 3000 block of West Brady.

He was wanted in the Friday afternoon slaying of Rogelio Morales, also of Clovis. Parmer County officials said the men were co-workers at Tuls Cattle Co. east of Farwell. Parmer Sheriff Randy Geries said Morales, 23, died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Curry County press release said Gutierrez — who is also known as Javier Moreno — was taken into custody without incident. The weapon believed used in the shooting was also seized, Waller said in the release.

Gutierrez has been booked into the Curry County Adult Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to Texas, Waller said.
