CNJ staff LAS CRUCES — Clovis’ Guillermo Chavez qualified for the U.S. Amateur after finishing as medalist at Tuesday’s qualifier at New Mexico State University. Chavez, a 2005 Clovis High graduate, shot an 8-under-par 136 in the two-day tournament. The U.S. Amateur is Aug. 24-30 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
